Lanitra Smith

Executive Director

My name is Lanitra Smith, known as Ms. Nikkey in the child development field. I began my career in early childhood education in 1991 as a substitute teacher in a preschool classroom, unaware that I was stepping into my true calling. Within three months, I was promoted to third in charge, and from that point forward, my passion and career in early childhood education truly began to flourish.

Not long after, I began caring for children in my home, which eventually led to the opening of my first licensed child care center in 1994. As the owner and director of Nursery Rhymes Child Care Center, I proudly served families and nurtured young minds for 24 years. During that time, I earned my Technical Certificate of Credit (TCC) in Early Childhood Care and Education to further strengthen my skills and knowledge

.

In 2018, I made the difficult decision to close my center—a turning point that was both emotional and transformative.Currently, I am pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Business, with just six credits remaining toward completion. Beyond my professional life, I am a proud mother to a wonderful son and a loving grandmother. I am deeply grounded in my faith, and I enjoy dancing, spending time with family and friends, and watching sports.
